The United Arab Emirates has reported that its air defence systems have successfully detected and intercepted dozens of missiles and drones launched toward its territory amid ongoing regional hostilities. The Ministry of Defence confirmed the large-scale aerial assault originated from Iranian forces, in retaliation to intensified conflict in the broader Middle East.
Interception Figures
The UAE Ministry of Defence said that 137 Iranian ballistic missiles and 209 drones were tracked and engaged since the outset of the attack. Of these:
- 132 missiles were destroyed, while five fell harmlessly into the sea.
- 195 drones were intercepted, with 14 falling within UAE territory or waters, causing some collateral damage.
Authorities described the successful interceptions as a demonstration of the readiness and capability of the UAE’s layered air-defence systems in responding to complex aerial threats.
Local Incidents and Casualties
While major strikes were prevented by defensive systems, debris from intercepted drones and missiles did cause minor material damage in several areas of Abu Dhabi and Dubai, as confirmed by local officials. In one incident near Zayed International Airport, shrapnel from a downed drone led to the death of a Pakistani national and injuries to seven others.
In Dubai, debris from intercepted drones caused fires and damage at several locations including the façade of Burj Al Arab and other civilian structures. Four people were reported injured at Dubai International Airport after debris impacted parts of the facility.
Authorities stressed that emergency response teams acted swiftly to control fires and support affected residents.

Official Statements and Government Response
The UAE Ministry of Defence condemned the attack in the strongest terms, calling it a flagrant violation of national sovereignty and international law. Officials reaffirmed that the country reserves full right to respond and will take all necessary measures to protect its territory, citizens and residents.
The ministry also urged the public to rely only on official sources for updates and avoid sharing unverified information.
Regional Context
The incident is part of a wider escalation following intensified conflict between Iran and U.S.-aligned forces in the region. Multiple Gulf states have reported missile and drone engagements in recent days, and airspaces in parts of the Gulf were temporarily restricted due to security concerns.
